Modern World Migration
Migration is the foundation stone of any population. Even the native of all lands, excepting Africa (if you suspect the idea), once journeyed from distant lands.
Even today, it might be surprising for a non native individual of North America or Australia, to lay claim to over 4 generations of citizenship. Most of the people of these states have their roots in Europe, East Asia, the Middle East or Africa. Still – two or three hundred years is a drop in the bucket of time and evolution.
Here in Toronto, one major claim to the city’s reputation is the wealthy cultural variety generated by the various origins of the inhabitants. As an immigrant myself, I’m only able to see positive issues rising from this variety. There looks to be a swelling of common humanity when different cultures come together. There’s learning, toleration and an undercurrent that sings to us all that we aren’t all that different from one another. This may only be achieved thru direct experience and close contact. One can’t be a real part of humanity thru a Television or computer monitor. Those among us with the leading-edge spirit of ancient times migrate, visit and live among other cultures till we find our new home.
Latest immigration is undeniably a long and concerned process, yet patience and toleration are the keys to enjoying such an experience. Having the label of “foreigner” also takes some getting familiar with. Accents change, traffic conditions and even standard household gadgets are dissimilar, but difference can be exciting and fascinating if one’s angle is positive. To be a migrant must mean that one is prepared to learn another country’s culture and adopt it’s techniques of functionality – from laws to language to customs, be ready to change.
I’ll never lose my adoration of my local country or lose my very own unique culture, but when in Rome, Toronto, New York or Sydney, I’m going to act acceptable to that location. The same ethics for visiting a neighbours house are the fundamentals of any immigration ethos. The above declared, there are people who still adhere to segregation and prejudice in a downcast try to hide their own fears. Giving them any regard only increases their power, so ignore their stupidity and has a great time as a foreigner, an immigrant or whatever other label is placed on you. Migration is the basis of movement. For pleasure or prerequisite, it increases tomorrow more than yesterday, as more of us notice that our comfort sector lives inside us without regard for the differing skies.
